Campfire - Kansas Flint Hills
Gathered around the primal campfire last night for hours like our ancestors did Millenniums ago. Warmth, comfort, friendship, entertainment, peacefulness, starry night, crickets, coyotes calling.
On a recent camping outing we tested the Biolite Stove, an interesting new technology for campstoves. It utilizes wood sticks often available at campsites for cooking or boiling water.Wood pellets can also be utilized for fuel. Heat powers a fan to make the fire ultra-efficient. During a full burn, the stove can boil 1 liter of water in as little as 4 min. 30 sec. An optional grill for the stove is also available.
A secondary benefit of the stove is that it can be used to charge small electronics like mobile phones and LED lights. Testing with an IPhone 6 indicated only sporadic charging of the phone at full power. Company specifications indicates that when using the IPhone 4, 20 min. of charging with a strong fire will provide about 60 min. of talk time.
The Biolite Stove could be a very useful tool in emergency situations like providing some extra power for your phone to catch the last few minutes of the Royals game.
Fordson was a brand name of tractors and trucks. "Between 1917 and 1922, the Fordson was for tractors somewhat like the Ford Model T was for automobiles—it captured the public's imagination and widely popularized the machine, with a reliable design, a low price affordable for workers and farmers, a widespread dealership network, and a production capacity for large numbers."
